what do I do with my Bridesmaid’s Dress

The wedding is over, you slayed in your dress and the pictures are to die for. You played your role well, and looked AMAZING doing it… Now what do you do with this gorgeous gown that is seemingly a one hit wonder? I Haven’t been doing bridal looks that long, however one of the questions I get asked very often, is what do I do with my bridesmaids dress after the wedding? Below I have a list of options for you to consider, that I’m sure you will appreciate.

Cut it

This is usually my first suggestion and the quickest way to take a dress from a single wear evening gown, to a multi wear Cocktail dress. You can also cut sleeves to make it a little less formal or turn the full dress into separates.

Re-Design It

Turn it into something completely different. Change the neckline or add a high slit. Remove the bow from the back or change the buttons to zippers and before you know if you have a gorgeous ‘never before seen’ dress .

Up-cycle it

If you’re not interested in refashioning the dress you can always up-cycle it to make other items such as stuffed toys, wall hangings, cushions, curtains or even an outfit for a little girl :).

Accessorize

Believe it or not, accessorizing a dress can bring new life to it. Adding a small change can make all the difference . A belt, some rhinestones and or even some applique can make a dress a little less formal and and lot more casual and wearable.

Dye it

When women want a change one of the first things we do is change our hair colour. The same can be done for your Bridesmaids dress by dying it. Change the colour, add some embellishments and VOILA! You have a new dress! You can always wear it to another wedding as a guest…how mi soun?

Believe it or not this is the SAME dress. The lace was separated from the lining, after which it was dyed black and both pieces cut short SOURCE: Simplemost.com

Sell It

If you know for a fact that you will never be wearing a gown again ( especially if you thought it was God awful) , the next best thing to do is sell it, either to an acquaintance, friend or a Thrift store, because what is the point of keeping clothing you’ll likely never wear again?

Donate It

Again, it is pointless to keep a dress you’ll never wear again, so the next best thing to do is to donate it. Again it can be donated to a friend, acquaintance, Thrift store oven a young lady who may not be able to afford a prom dress.

That’s a wrap guys, short and spicy just the way you like it. I hope this article will help you to the put the days of seeing that dress in your closet and wondering what the hell to do with it behind you. You can even combine a couple of the techniques above to creates a whole new dress, it just takes a little bit of creativity and a lot of technical skills, so when in doubt reach out to your seamstress.
